With summer just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about peeling off all those winter layers!
If you’re a little pasty, flaky or down right unfit, now is the perfect time to start thinking about getting back in shape before it hits beach season! The nzgirl team share how they are prepping themselves for some summer fun…
Isla, Flossie Content ProducerThis being my first desk job, over the winter I’ve put on a solid four to five kilos! I’m not totally happy about this state of affairs and I’m attempting to get back to my pre-job weight (though pesky things like office treaties and late night takeaways keep getting in the way!) My summer prep involves swapping lollies for fruit (I had pineapple lumps for brekkie this morning) and fitting in some exercise. And copious amounts of self tan to hide under! Ramarea, Editor All winter I’ve been lazy, I haven’t done any exercise and am starting to freak out at the thought of having to jump into little shorts and singlets over summer! Not only is my body not in the best shape ever (no exercise tends to do that to ya!), but my skin is all dry and patchy – eksh! So I’m taking action! Nadia and I have just started on a 12 week plan to get our bodies toned and fit for summer, with a mix of swimming, runs (or in my case walks!), step classes, weights and even a bit of kick boxing! I’m also upping the routine in the shower with loads more exfoliation (good bye scaly skin!). Melissa, Advertising ExecutiveNow that the mornings are light and warm I’ve ditched my usual gym routine in favour of running – which I am loving! Hitting the pavement on a crisp spring mornings and watching the sun come up sets me up for my working day! I also inherited a cross trainer from my folks so I have been using it some mornings as well. I’ve kept my usual weight training and stretching up through winter and this is still part of my exercise regime. I’ve also added in more squat jumps, lunges and high knees to get the legs super toned for their summer reveal! Beauty wise it’s the essential routine; exfoliate and moisturise! With all that under control I think I now need to draw my attention to my feet…they are in need of some serious TLC before being exposed in summer shoes! Emma Advertising ManagerAs soon as the sun came out, I had a sudden attack of the guilt’s. I haven’t looked after myself half as good as I should have over winter, choosing to relax inside with a glass of red rather than getting out and getting some exercise! So I’ve made an executive decision to not be such a wimp this spring and even though it’s still a little ‘fresh’ out there and the water temp is still kinda icy… I must surf somewhere every weekend – even if the conditions are bad, it’s all character building right? It’s my own personal challenge! Anya, Fashion and Beauty Editor Getting ready for summer always meant getting my skin looking amazing. This in mind, I’ve started eating more healthily – with a great mixture of fruits, veggies and legumes finally making their way into my daily diet. I’m keeping up with the vitamins and I’m treating myself to daily walks and lifting weights at the gym. Best of all, to get my skin positively glowing I’m soon off to get a full body wrap at my favourite spa – a 75 minute treatment which not only makes your skin look great all over but feels amazing. I can’t think of a better way to get summer ready. Nadia, Campaign Executive As Ramarea said we have teamed up to fight the winter bulge and get in tip top shape for summer! It’s quite sad how lazy I get in winter (and I’m sure I’m not the only one), but the bad weather makes you so sleepy and warm yum food seems so attractive! However, with longer nights and sunny weather there are just no excuses. We have only been going a week so far and I already feel better about myself and slightly more hypo. We give ourselves one day off a week though to eat all those foods we desire, as after all we are human and I hear it is dangerous to lose weight too quickly! Sarah, Art DirectorIt’s been so hard to keep in shape over winter with no daylight in the morning and none at night! I’m not signed up to a gym and enjoy running so in getting ready for summer, I am running every chance I get. I am pretty slow and unfit – but oh well! About six weeks of running three times a week usually gets me back to where I want to be weight wise, so I am looking forward to the lighter hours now that daylight savings is here! I live close to the water so my run is really cool as its right by the ocean and through a beautiful reserve!
