Sweating it out in the gym during the warmer months just doesn’t seem right. We have some of the most beautiful beaches and scenery in the world so don’t waste summer sitting on a rowing machine on your lonesome. Why not try a sport that will have you looking hot, feeling fit and making friends at the same time?
The best thing is that these activities are fun and it definitely beat hitting the streets in your running shoes. You’ll be having such a good time you won’t even notice that sweat moustache!
Beach volleyball Before you start to worry - you DON’T have to wear a skimpy bikini to be a beach volleyball babe. This is a no fuss sport that can pretty much be played anywhere with anyone. Most of the main beaches have volleyball nets so all you need is a ball and a group of friends. You’ll find it’s perfectly normal to rock up with a few mates and join in with everyone else. All the running, diving and scrambling for the ball is bound to whip you into shape after that picnic. Win $5,000! For a great taste of this sport sign up for the Gillette Venus Breeze Volleyball Challenge ’07 here. Taking place on December 8, this great event hosted by nzgirl promises to be one very fun day... plus there’s a $5,000 first prize up for grabs! Touch Touch is one of the most popular summer sports because all you need is a spare bit of grass, some friends to play with and a ball! The cool thing is you can play it at the beach, at a park or in your backyard after a BBQ. It’s perfect if you’re looking to get fit as it’s more stimulating than hitting the pavement. There are lots of summer social touch leagues so get together a bunch of girlfriends and some matching singlets for a bit of fun. You’ll find lots of teams chill out with a beer or three after the game so grab your chilly bin and pull up a chair! Surfing Even if your version of catching waves is more like playing in the white wash, surfing is the ultimate summer sport to have you looking hot and feeling fit! What better way to take advantage of the beautiful beaches? The only thing is it requires some skill, but there are plenty of attractive looking instructors to sort this out. Surfing is a god send for flabby legs and pot bellies and a perfect opportunity for a few laughs with your friends. Tennis A traditional summer sport, it still rates high on the looking hot and feeling fit scale! It’s an awesome way to get your mates together and get rid of some stress. There are plenty of tennis clubs around that you can join or public tennis courts to use. It’s an awesome all over body work out and it doesn’t matter if you’re slightly uncoordinated - you’re sure to have a good time trying anyway!
Kayaking An underestimated summer sport, kayaking is one way to enjoy the spectacular scenery. It’s always more fun to kayak with someone else (they help lessen the load too) so grab a friend and either hire or buy some gear. It’s not hard to learn and it’s the perfect way to discover places you can’t get to on foot! The good thing is you can’t simply stop when you’re tired because you still have to paddle home so it’ll do wonders for those bat wing arms!
