What are 4 things that New Zealand should know about you? 1. I’m doing girls' coaching sessions this summer 06/07 2. I’m involved in organising the NZ Nationals 3. I worked as a Sales Rep for Globe International for three years before deciding to take my wakeboarding more professionally 4. I’m friendly and approachable, and ready to coach any girl that wants to learn to wakeboard or progress their riding! Check out www.wake.co.nz or www.myspace.com/andreafountain How did you get involved in your sport? After knee boarding and skiing in our summer holidays, behind an inflatable dinghy with a 25hrs, my brother brought home an old school skurf board, a directional board with sandal bindings… that was when I was about 13. We loved it so much that in 1999 we decided to buy a little wakeboard boat, and from there we progressed into a bigger boat and a bigger wake!
What’s been your a highlight to date? All of 2005 was a great year, I had the best results ever...but in particular coming 3rd at the WWA Worlds was the highlight!
What sort of training do you do? When I’m in Orlando, I am riding a couple of times, pretty much everyday. I also try to keep fit with bike riding which keeps my knees healthy.
What are some of your goals for the future? I really want to be consistently placing top four at all pro competitions in 2007, and I would love to take out the WWA World title also in 2007.
How are you, as an nzgirl taking it to the world? I’m trying to push myself and make the most of the opportunities that come my way. Sometimes it was tough when I was first breaking into the scene as I didn’t know that many girls but now I have a great group of girls and we love to ride together and push each other.
How would other nzgirls go about following in your footsteps? I would love more girls to join me! At the moment we just need more girls wakeboarding in New Zealand.
What do you do for fun? I love to snowboard, wakesurfing – which is using the wake of the boat at a slow speed to surf on (so much fun!), painting, shopping, go tubing for a laugh and exploring new countries and cities.
Is there anything you’ve learnt that you wish someone had imparted to you earlier? Get coaching from a young age, it will help you progress faster in the long term. Give everything a go!
What songs are getting big play on your iPod/Discman at the moment? Shapeshifter, RJD2 and Postal Service.
What gets you out of bed in the morning? Glassy water and a beautiful sunny warm day.
Which superhero personifies you? I don’t know really if I’m a super hero type.
And a final message for nzgirls? Make the most of every opportunity that comes your way…. And enjoy the journey that goes with it!
