TAME
Get into the Christmas spirit. Don’t be a scrooge this year, drag out the decorations, play some carols and actually enjoy the festive season, just like you did when you were a kid.
Go easy on the drinking. Remember the rule – one alcoholic drink then one glass of water. Trust me, you’ll feel a lot better for it come January!
Drop in a gift for an underprivileged child. Shopping malls always have points where you can leave presents for those less fortunate, so spend a small bit of cash and improve the Christmas experience for someone else.
INTERMEDIATE
Be a secret Santa and surprise someone with a random act of kindness. It can be as simple as offering to cook your mum dinner or dropping in some flowers for a friend who has been down lately.
Take some time out from the mad rush to think about your New Year’s resolutions. Write your goals down and really consider how you’re going to achieve them.
Extend an invite to someone who’s alone. Christmas is a really depressing time for a lot of people so if you know someone who’s by themselves on the big day, invite them to join your family’s festivities – what’s one more mouth to feed?
CHALLENGING
Still don’t have plans for New Year’s? Take it upon yourself to organise a kick-arse party for your friends. Come up with a theme, deck the place out and go crazy creating a night-to-remember.
Stay calm around your family on Christmas day. It’s so easy to regress to a child-like state when you find yourself back in the familial fold. This year just take a deep breath and keep smiling, even when your uncle is drunk and obnoxious, your mum is stressed and tired and your sister is totally getting on your nerves!
