Learn not to say ‘Yes’ when you really mean ‘No’. If you feel like you have DOORMAT stamped on your forehead it’s time to take control of your life. If you really don’t want to do something don’t feel you have to just because it’s expected/ you were asked/ you normally do – it’ll only make you resentful in the long run.
Write a list of 50 things that make you happy. It’s always easier to focus on the negative, so spend some time thinking about the things in life you truly enjoy and love. Keep your list handy for those down times when things aren’t going your way, it’s a good reminder that the world’s not all bad.
INTERMEDIATE
Memorise a poem and pass it on. Whether it’s a performance for your partner, crush or just something for the children in your life, you never know when having a poem in your repertoire is going to come in handy. If you don’t know where to start try this website.
Start Christmas shopping now so you’re not a flustered mess in a manic mall on Christmas Eve. Before you get spending, set a budget, working backwards from the total amount you can afford to spend – divide this figure amongst the people you want to buy for and think about suitable gifts before you hit the shops, so you’re not suckered into wasting money.
CHALLENGING
Buy an original piece of art and start your own art collection. You don’t have to spend a fortune, hunt out emerging artists and make sure you choose something you truly love. If your budget doesn’t stretch that far, head to The Warehouse, pick up a cheap canvas and some paint and get creating yourself.
Investigate your family history. Do you only have a sketchy idea about where those elderly relatives you had to dutifully visit as a child fit into the great scheme of things? Take the time to talk to your parents and grandparents so you have a good idea of your family tree… you might even uncover a hidden scandal or juicy skeleton in the closet.
