This month we've pulled together some amazing tips, tricks and secrets from nzgirls all over, to bring you the very best in tried & true recipes for success. Click here to find out more...
While sex may be a universal language, it seems we all speak it quite differently. The Durex Sex Survey Results have just been released and it seems us nzgirls are a promiscuous bunch (I would just like to point out when I say nzgirls I mean all kiwi women, not just the girls in the office!!).
Ok firstly, the bad news. Not all of us are being safe - 66% of Kiwi women admitted to having had unsafe sex compared to only 45% of our global counterparts. Worse still, even the boys are showing us up! Up to 55% of Kiwi women aged 16-20 years say they've had unsafe sex compared to 43% of their male counterparts (who are we having unprotected sex with I wonder?). We should all take it upon ourselves to do better and respect our bodies enough to be safe with them. Don’t be fooled by those cute dimples and blue eyes, even hot boys get STDs.
The aforementioned problem explains why 11% of women under the age of 18 have had an unplanned pregnancy. That’s one in every ten of us – talk about nuts!! We are causing ourselves a whole lot of unnecessary worry and heartache. If you are having sex, head down to Family Planning and sort out your contraception. Believe me, it’s a lot cheaper than raising a kid for 18years.
nzgirls are also sleeping with more partners than the boys are. Who would have thought? This has started an office debate about how that works logistically, but it seems we go against the grain from the rest of the world - 18% of women claim they've slept with between 11 - 20 people while only 15% of men claim they've slept with the same amount of partners. Together though, we sit well above the global average. New Zealanders have the third highest number of sexual partners with 13.2, behind Turkey (14.5) and Australia (13.3).
On a better note, we are having more sex than the Aussies! On average New Zealanders are having sex 114 times per year - ahead of the global average of 103 and the Australians who fall behind on 108. Most Kiwis have sex 3-4 times per week (22%) and 15% have sex at least twice a week.
We are also doing our best to spice things up. Some 31% of Kiwis say they like experimenting with sex toys, so it's no surprise that New Zealand ranked above the global average for ownership of a vibrator (37%). Some audacious Kiwis said they'd invested in more exotic sex enhancers such as love balls (8%), and 10% admit to having purchased penis rings.
Kiwis top the global charts for having one-night stands (64%), second in the world only to the Norwegians on 70%. Other sexual antics popular with Kiwis include threesomes which scored 26% of Kiwis' votes, and same sex action (20%).
The survey also proved Antipodean’s love sex alfresco, with Australians (54%) just beating Kiwis (53%) to the top spot for having sex in a park. Other favourite sex spots include the garden where 43% of Kiwis have had sex, second only to South Africans on 46% and well ahead of the global average of 22%. Only 3% of Kiwis have joined the mile high club which is surprising considering how much we love to travel, although 15% of Kiwis have been bold enough to have sex in front of a camera.
Daniel Carter has topped the sexiest male chart for the second year in a row with 35.7% of the Kiwi vote. The sexy All Black was followed by Jeremy "Newsboy'' Wells (11.3%) in second place, and fellow rugby star Carlos Spencer on 10.7%.
The battle for New Zealand's sexiest female was a closely fought contest this year, but once again Nicky Watson was victorious and came out on top with 15.1% of the vote. Shortland Street's Anna Julienne (aka Nurse Maia Jefferies) was hot on her heels with 14% of the Kiwi vote and former True Bliss star Jo Cotton came third with 13% of the vote.
Queenstown has once again been voted the country's sexiest hot spot with 40.4% of the total vote. Both North Islanders and Mainlanders voted the town number one. No wonder it is such a popular tourist destination! Waiheke Island trailed behind in second place on 12.4%, pushing Christchurch into third with 10.9%.
So there you go, the good, the bad and the ugly, (ain’t nothing cute about STDs). For you loved up couples book a flight to Queenstown, and for those of us on the single market I leave you with a few words of wisdom; ‘If you think he’s spunky, cover his monkey’.
