Are you looking forward to summer, but stuck with a wardrobe full of winter clothes? We share our favourite tips on how to get a great new season look for less; from our shopping tips for bargain stores like Dress-Smart, to how to spot a great buy from a not so great buy...
Choose your trends
Whilst that ombre maxi dress may be calling out your name, in reality how much wear will you get out of it this summer? Will it be the versatile crowning glory of your wardrobe, or be worn a couple of times before being relegated to the confines of the back of your wardrobe? Be smart about what trends you adopt and look for ones that have a classic wearable edge to them - think white cotton dresses, vintage cuts and crisp summer suiting. The same thing should be kept in mind when it comes to shoes and accessories. The more classic the items, the more wear you will get from them and the less regret you will have at the end of the season.
Decide what you need and what you want
Write down four items that you need and two items that you want. Your needs should be pieces that can work in with your existing wardrobe to update them. Things like a floral chiffon top, a great coloured dress and a summer sandal are great ideas. Your wants can be the more frivolous finds, things like the very “this season” pieces – for example a bright orange skirt or dress, or something with sparkle on it. This will be your shopping list; keep in mind that it’s merely a guide but having this while hunting around will give you something to focus on, and help make the shopping process easier
Know Where to Shop
Finding a wardrobe on a budget can be tricky, but there are places and tricks that make it easier. First of all hit your local outlet centre; Dress-Smart is a nationwide chain which offers huge discounts on leading brands. They've got all your favourite stores such as Max and Wild Pair, unisex casual stores such as Jeans West and Amazon, designer brands such as Cue and Trelise Cooper and accessory stores such as Sole and Sunglass Hut. Dress-Smart makes finding a bargain and building a wardrobe cheaply easy with all the stores under one roof – no more traipsing around town hunting out the bargains!
Get the most for your money
Make sure you shop wisely - first stop should always be outlet centres such as Dress-Smart. This place is a fashion gold mine, with up to 70% off normal retail prices each and every day of the year - not just sale time!
Don’t be afraid to ask the store staff when they are expecting new stock in, they will have an idea of what dates deliveries are expected to happen and often what will be included. This may mean last season’s great denim, which can be worn anytime of year, or that maxi dress you had your eye on will, be in store now for half price!
