When it comes to grocery shopping, there are some foods you should never scrimp on. Although opting for the cheaper version may sometimes leave you with a bit of extra moolah, it’s not necessarily worth it if you’re settling for a lower quality product…
You know, those foods that are cheap, but taste nasty or tasteless, and have no nutritional value at all! Even though we all want to save a little money where possible, it’s not always worth it. Do your body and your taste buds a favour, and check out our list of the top 10 foods you should never scrimp on!
CoffeeThe difference between quality coffee and the cheapo instant variety is remarkable! You can taste the rich, warm flavour of a delicious coffee that costs a little extra and thoroughly enjoy it, sip by sip. When it comes to the cheap kind, it generally looks a little like saw dust and tastes pretty much the same too! Quality coffee will keep you awake and happy, while the cheap stuff will give you a quick fix that definitely won’t last all that long. Ham and salami
When it comes to buying preserved meat, don’t go cheap! The cheaper versions are generally tasteless and far lower in quality. You definitely pay for what you get in this area, so be prepared to fork out a little extra for some meat with amazing flavour and taste. The bonus is, that because the meat has so much taste, you won’t need to eat as much! Ice CreamCheap ice cream is milky, goes icy quickly and is dull. Quality ice cream is rich, creamy and delicious! Enough said. Premade pasta sauce
If you love a pasta sauce that’s chunky, rich and thick, don’t scrimp! The lower the price, generally the higher the water content. Pasta Cheap pasta tends to break easily, is floury and strangely textured. Buy a premium brand and enjoy delicious pasta which holds sauces well and allows you to enjoy its taste. .jpg) Bread Those 99 cent loaves of bread may be a bargain, but the paper thin slices are a bit like cardboard and they generally only come in white (not the best health wise). For a couple of dollars more, you can get a wholesome, hearty and yummy crusty loaf filled with whole grains that tastes amazing and is much better for your body. Meat
When it comes to red meat and chicken, keep away from the cheaper cuts. Cheaper meat is generally thinner and tasteless. Think sausages – the cheaper versions are tasteless (at best), and you need loads to feel full (if you can stomach them). Slightly pricier versions such as chorizo sausages are a better buy, they are superior in taste and because they are so flavoursome, you only need to use a much smaller amount. OilCheap oil taints your food and leaves it with a greasy after taste. Go for a high quality oil to simply coat your food and give you an extra boost of nutrients (think Ricebran oil or Avocado oil). Chocolate
When it comes to chocolate, anything will do, but a delicious, rich and creamy bar is always going to win out over a cheap and dull sort any day. If you’re going to spoil yourself, do it right with a quality and indulgent chocolate… Mmm! Ramarea
