I really love going to race days, it’s an excuse to dress up and buy a hat. What’s not to love?!
But once you’re out and about it can be a little frustrating; does your lipstick still look OK? And is the wind going to take your hat off? Why didn’t you remember to bring tissues?
With the Lindauer Melbourne Cup Day right around the corner, we've whipped up the ultimate guide on how to look fab in the field – as well as a must have list of handbag essentials for race day!
The Kit
Tinted moisturiser is one of those do it all’s and the new Hissy Fit tinted moisturiser is also a 30+ sunscreen. Use it to conceal unsightly blemishes and then smoothe it in with your brush and some powder. Powder will also help with covering dreaded sunburn from enjoying the races a little too much, and avoiding sun induced oily shine. If you're at the Lindauer Melbourne Cup Day, make sure to pop into the Lindauer Powder Room to get your makeup touched up the pros!
Hair pins will make sure your hair do doesn’t become a hair don’t, whilst the celebrity tape will stop any wardrobe malfunctions. Plasters are amazing not only for random nicks and cuts but also for shoe rub! And don’t forget to add some panadol in the bag too. A hand mirror is perfect for checking your makeup before joining in on fashion in the field and you better believe that wipes or tissues will be your best friend, especially if finger food is on offer.
1: Saving Face Moisturising Tinted Sunscreen $65.00 from Hissyfit stockists
1: Add bobby pins, than add more When you do your hair before you go out make sure to add more bobby pins than you think you actually need. After all you are spending a day out and about, and no doubt you will be exposed to the elements at some stage or another.
2: Revive and survive If your hair starts to look a little limp and your makeup anything but fab, a light mist of water is just what you need. Our fav is M.A.C Charged Water – spritz this product all over your hair to give it a perk up and to reactivate the product in your hair. A small pat over your skin with a very lightly damp tissue will do the same for your makeup.
3: Be realistic If you’re really not the kind of girl who is fine with checking her makeup every time you eat something, or just as a the day leads on then don’t decide this day will be the one to don the red lipstick and fake eyelashes. Whilst it can be a great look it may not be the most practical and sometimes clear lip gloss can just be a better choice.
4: Always carry a mirror A hand mirror will be your best friend when in the field, allowing you to check your look no matter what’s going on around you. Forget your mirror? Never fear, the most honest mirrors are human ones, so when your friend says you might want to pull your dress down a little - believe her!
5: Try out your hat A fascinator that digs into the sides of your head just behind your ears (you know the place) is not going to be fun after the first hour. So make sure you check your hat or fascinator for wearability and comfort as well as style!
