We are loving the Olympics right now! With so many awesome nzgirls (and nzboys) representing and kicking ass over in Beijing, we thought it only fair that we celebrate their amazing achievements. We take a look at some of our fav kiwi Olympian goddesses…
Valerie Villi This amazing 23-year-old is one of New Zealand’s fav golden girls! This nzgirl from South Auckland is now the world’s shot put champion; on Saturday she won the Olympic gold medal to prove it.
Having finished ninth at the last Olympics in Athens (she was only a mere 19!), she’s climbed to the top and has become the first woman field athlete to win gold for New Zealand since 1952! Woo hoo!
Georgina and Caroline Evers-Swindell The country’s other fav golden girls, Georgina and Caroline, took out the gold medal in the Women’s double sculls in a super exciting race, which they won by an incredible .0001 of a second!
This is the second consecutive gold medal for the girls – a feat only five other kiwis have managed to achieve. Go the nzgirls!
Sarah Walker At 20-years-old the current BMX world champion is our next great hope for a medal! From Kawerau, this gutsy girl will be aiming for gold during today’s BMX final. In a strange twist, she happens to be coached by Ken Cools, the brother of her main rival, Sammy. This is the first time BMX has been held at the Olympics – so make sure you’re watching!
Beatrice Faumuina Queen Bea may have missed out on reaching the finals, however she’s still up there on our list of Olympian goddesses!
The 33-year-old double Commonwealth Games discus champion is an absolute legend and has proved her staying power in the world of competitive sports – Beijing was her fourth Olympics!
