The words 'statement dressing' are enough to strike fear into most peoples hearts. Visions of bright and very attention grabbing items come to mind, and if you are standing on the fence when it comes to fashion, it can all be a little too much.
Never fear - buying bold is all about making a statement about who you are! Anya has created the ultimate guide to dressing to make your own statement, without ever feeling you are stepping into the unknown.
Take a Colour
This is my favourite tool to instantly inject personality into someone’s wardrobe. So often people use neutral tones to hide away, they know that in a sea of black they will just meld into the background. But everyone has a favourite colour, a colour they are naturally drawn to, one that makes them feel fantastic and brings out the best in their personality. So why not embrace this idea and show the world who you are?

Develop a Trademark
A girl who only wears dresses tells the world she’s feminine and not afraid of it. A girl who wears her jeans from the 70s and her hair in loose bohoey curls lets you know she’s a free spirit. Love the idea of a sexy secretary? Develop a wardrobe of fitted white shirts and thick rimmed glasses. Have a penchant for punk? A rough and ready leather jacket will make the perfect wardrobe accompaniment. This idea doesn't scream at you, it’s a subtle way to inject yourself into your wardrobe- but promise me people will notice. An easy way to do this? Statement scarves are affordable to buy and are a great trademark!
I like to think of accessories as the little bits of you that make a wardrobe work. After all when it comes to dressing to your shape, your work environment and your lifestyle it can get a little formulaic - so an accessory lets you break out of the mould a bit. Next time you put on your black suit ask yourself, is the subdued black bag the one you really want to take? Or is that red patent number just calling out to you?

Precious About Patterns
It's strange to think that even today people are still a little bit nervous about patterns. And it's for the very reason that they break the mould – base colours are just so much safer! That said, patterns are one of the smartest ways to really grab hold of trends and make them work for you. And in terms of personalising a wardrobe and giving outfits impact, a pattern can work wonders. It doesn't have to be as scary as a big and out there pattern. If you are really worried go for a separate in a sleek chiffon that will give the pattern, but in a softened and subdued way.
