Feeling blasé about your healthy eating plan? No matter what your diet choices are, if it is repetitive, you are bound to become bored with it. So if you are sick of your daily salad sandwiches, here are some ways to make your healthy eating plan more interesting. 1: Rediscover bakingIf you normally have a muesli bar for morning tea, go for something different and investigate some healthy recipes such as these blueberry muffins. These are a good source of fibre which means they are not only good for you, but ill help keep you feeling fuller for longer. 2: Sizzle up a salad Salads seem to be anunattractive winter option, and more of a summer thing. A yummy winter salad option is a roast vege salad.
Cut up potato, kumara, pumpkin, carrot, parsnips and yams into bite size cubes. Put a tablespoon or two of olive oil in a plastic bag and add the chopped vegetables. Shake to coat. Put in a roasting dish, sprinkle with mixed herbs and paprika. Bake at 2200C for 30-40 mins. These are just as nice cold as they are warm. Serve with some chopped feta cheese, or a tablespoon of cottage cheese with chives. 3: Try new snacks
Some good examples are low fat popcorn, a small handful of dried apricots and almonds, low fat crackers with tomato relish and cottage cheese or Edam cheese. 4: Recipe swap Run out of dinner ideas? Talk to your girlfriends and swap recipes, not only will you get a pile of new ideas; you’ll help them out too.
5: Go globalCheck out the ethnic foods aisle in your supermarket for inspiration, or go the extra mile and check out your local Asian supermarket for fresh veges and great noodles or your Indian market for delicious spices and nuts. 6: In a hurry?Visit the Food in a Minute website for some fantastic recipes that are tasty, easy and ready in record time. We also love Fresh in the Kitchen for delish, easy to prepare meals. 7: Makeover your favourite treats Make healthy versions of your traditionally high fat favourites. Homemade pizza is my favourite. Buy bases, spread with tomato paste, add chopped mushrooms, cooked chicken cut into slices, a few sundried tomato slices and some chopped red onion. Sprinkle with grated Edam cheese and a swirl of bbq sauce. Bake at 200°C for 15 minutes. Quick, easy and tasty! 8: Reuse left overs Lets face it, food isn’t cheap – so instead of wasting it in the rubbish, learn to be inventive and reuse. For example, do you have left over mince from spaghetti bolognaise? The next day mix with a can of Watties Chilli beans and serve with salad in burritos. 9: Clever Sweet Treats
Feel like dessert but don’t want to overload on fat and sugar? Canned pears and homemade chocolate sauce, creamed rice and low fat ice cream, and apple crumble are all better choices. Creamed rice also makes a nice sweet treat for lunch time and comes in mini cans that are good for taking to work. 10: Try a new sandwich combination Here are some ideas to get you started - alfalfa sprouts with marmite; apricot relish, philidalphia cheese and shredded chicken; rindless bacon and avocado; lean pork, lettuce and apple sauce.
