Trying to squeeze an exercise routine into a day packed with work, family and friends can be a mission - especially in winter when it's wet, cold and the days are shorter! However it can be done! Read on to check out how the nzgirl staffers are keeping fit this winter…
Melissa, Advertising Executive: Hitting the gym This winter I’ve been hitting the gym five to six days a week, and one day a week with a trainer (who nails my arse!). People think I'm crazy getting up to be at the gym by 6am, but I thoroughly enjoy my workout sessions - you feel and look better, and get lasting energy all day. When I get home from work I try and do at least 40 minutes of stretching and pilates style exercises which is a great way to unwind at the end of a hectic day and keep your muscles happy, not sore!
Anya, Style and Beauty Manager: Ballet
Forget running in the rain or trudging through traffic to get to the gym! I’ve started doing ballet classes, something I absolutely adore – I work up a sweat, gain fitness and strength, and I look forward to it all week! The class environment keeps me motivated as well.
Vicky, Campaign Manager: Indoor Netball I can’t recommend anything better than indoor netball. I play two nights a week – one with a mixed team, and one just with the ladies. I look forward to both games every single week. The ladies league is a lot more competitive, yet fun, and the mixed league, well that’s always good for a laugh...but we do like to win! Depending on whether you play outdoor or indoor rules, both get your blood pumping. Netball is fast paced, great for fitness, and coordination! And, the best bit about it in winter, is that it’s inside! There are plenty of leagues and competitions across the country.
Sarah, Art Director: Running
I have been running on the weekends, not as much as I should be though! Since moving to my new house, I can run around the nearby water front and reserves – it’s really nice! Although I must be pretty unfit compared to the super speedy nanas that power walk past me on the tough days!
Emma, Advertising Manager: Action sports
I play Indoor netball on Monday and Wednesday nights, Hockey starts in a few weeks on a Thursday night and then whenever I can, I drag out the steamy winter wetsuit (complete with thermal and booties!) and head out to the beach for a surf or up to Snowplanet for a snowboard. Phew – it’s crazy I know!
