Finding enough time to curl up with a great book is a luxury we all need to afford ourselves! If you’re after a good book but don’t know where to start, check out what the nzgirl team are loving right now for some inspiration… Melissa, Advertising Executive: Chasing Harry Winston, Laura WeisbergerWhy I’m loving this book: After hearing and reading fantastic reviews about this book I decided it would be the perfect, light hearted beach side read to take on holiday – as did most of the other woman surrounding me. The ‘Chick Flick’ of books, Chasing Harry Winston is about a trio of best friends in Manhattan who agree to change their lives in the most personal and dramatic way possible -- and within one calendar year. The perfect read to pass away lazy Sundays snuggled on the couch, glass of merlot in hand, dreaming about your own social life in New York city. Click here to buy it now!
Isla, Content Producer: Air Kisses, Zoe FosterWhy I’m loving this book: I’ve been hanging out to read Air Kisses because I’m addicted to Zoe’s blog, Fruity Beauty. I had that super anticipation, I-hope-it’s-as-good-as-I-think-it’ll-be thing going on so when I got my hands on it, I went straight home to read it over the weekend. I wasn’t disappointed at all! It’s the perfect fun read to curl up with on a cold winter’s day, it’s seriously entertaining and has me dreaming of yummy beauty products - it’s a must read! Click here to buy it now!
Nadia, Campaign Executive: My Sister’s Keeper, Jodi Picoult Why I’m loving this book: I actually finished this book a while ago, however I keep it beside my bed to feel proud of myself (the fact that I got through a massive book) and because it was awesome! It is a heart wrenching story about two sisters, one of which is sick with leukaemia and the other who may as well be, as she is her sick sister’s bone marrow match and ultimately keeps her alive! It is super sad but, oh so amazing! And I am super stoked that it’s being released as a movie! Click here to buy it now! Emma Punter, Advertising Manager: Love Life, Ray KluunWhy I’m loving this book: Not one for soppy love stories I was shocked when my boy recommended me Love Life (gasp), and if a guy can recommend a love story, set in Amsterdam and written by another guy, than naturally I was suspicious of its content. Well, I was wrong. This is an amazing and controversial book, and while it is a LOVE story it’s one of a different kind. Kluun strips back the meaning of love in a raw, honest and un-compromising way, then throws a male perspective on infidelity, marriage and relationships. You will laugh, you will cry (I’m not a big crier but I admit I bawled like a baby) and you’ll finish it with a whole new insight… Click here to buy it now!
Tee, Editor: Can We Help It If We’re Fabulous?, Peta Mathias Why I’m loving this book: The words prolific, larger than life, and irrepressible have oft been used to describe kiwi cuisine queen Peta Mathias – and they’re not far from the mark! While more familiar on our TV screens, gallivanting off around the world on foodie jaunts - or writing about said jaunts - Peta has compiled an inspiring, rich, outrageous and frank account of life as a woman. I’m a sucker for these collated words of wisdom (or “pontifications on womanhood” as Peta puts it) and this goes into my pile next to Basic Black by Cathy Black, Bitch and Famous by Wendyl Nissen and countless others! Click here to buy it now! Sarah, Art Director: Tribute, Nora RobertsWhy I’m loving this book: I have small crazy moments when we receive Nora Roberts books. When Jewels of the Sun came in, I loved it so much I ran out and bought the other two in the series! I was stoked when Tribute came in. It follows Nora’s usual formula, convenient masculine male, strong minded, beautiful heroine, love, lots of arguing and lots of unbelievable scandal. I’m always glued to her books as I love a good soppy romance novel... Loved reading it over the four days I had off sick with the flu this month! Click here to buy it now! Bonnie, Commercial Director: Out of Control, Suzanne BrockmanWhy I’m loving this book: My mum is religious about reading. She finds, vets and then passes on the best stuff to all the ladies of our family (me, my sister and my brother’s girlfriend). When she handed me this book by Susan Brockman I was very sceptical. I like romance and relationships, and the main characters in this book were all members of a Special Operations Military unit... BORING! However she insisted I read it and wow, wow, wow! The love scenes and intense relationships between the characters were HOT! Addicted, I am now onto my fifth Suzanne Brockman book. Love it! Click here to buy it now! Ramarea, Content Producer: Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Lorna Martin Why I’m loving this book: I first heard about this book through Tee’s glowing review in the Hot Five a few weeks ago (click here), and immediately jotted it down for my ‘must-read’ list. I found it seriously enlightening (almost like a wee slice of therapy) and entertaining (yes, I had some of those awkward ‘laugh out loud’ moments). It's a memoir that follows Journalist Lorna Martin on her quest to sort her life out - debt, heartbreak and all. If you thought your life was a mess, this book WILL make you feel better and inspire you to make it better! Click here to buy it now! Anya, Fashion and Beauty Manager: Heroin Diaries: A year in the life of a shattered rockstar, Nikki Six Why I’m loving this book: Although I was never a huge Motley Crue fan they did influence a great deal of the bands I listen to, and Nikki Six is one of those legendary rock heroes that is surrounded by insane stories too tall to believe. The book revealed the sad truth of this rock and roll figure’s life, and the true toll of his legendary persona. You follow Nikki basically on the road to rebuilding his life, his emotional ups and downs and trials with addiction. Through reading this book I’ve become a fan of Nikki not just for his musical talent, but for his true tenacity and message that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Click here to buy it now!
Sherrill, Office Support Manager: Short Fat Chick to Marathon Runner, Kerre Woodham Why I’m loving this book: It’s a really great book, I enjoyed it heaps. She says: “I was 40 and found my body was falling apart and my mind was rapidly following”. I could really identify with that. She is a good writer who tells it like it is. I found her story inspirational and motivating and I would recommend it to others - It’s now doing the rounds of my friends! Click here to buy it now!
