When it comes to the realm of beauty, the Pin-up style of the 40s and 50s is one of the most replicated looks. Anya shows you how to steal this classic style yourself, from eye flicks to red lips... The No Fail Red Lip Inspired by Gwen Steffani Easy Peasy A little red lip gloss in a punchy colour is a simple way of getting the red lipped look without the fuss of lipstick and lining. Choose one in a deep yet bright shade of red and apply by patting on to the lips. To get the clean lines typical of lipstick application, a damp cotton bud wiped around the lip line will tidy and sharpen any edges. A Little Advanced Start by exfoliating the lips with a clean toothbrush working in circular motions. A little lip balm rubbed in and topped with concealer is a good base for your lip colour. Next line the lips from the inside out using either a lip liner pencil or lipstick on a lip brush. Next fill in the lips working from the inside out. Perfection! 4: Anna Sui Corrective Concealor $45.00 from Mantrap The Upper Lash Flick Inspired by Scarlett Johansson Easy Peasy For beginners the lash flick is as simple as arming yourself with an angled brush and some powder eyeliner. Squeeze a drop of eyeliner sealer onto your eyeliner cake, then run the edge of your angled brush across it. Work from the inside of the eye to the outside dabbing the angled brush into the lash line. At the outer corner place one final dab with the end of your angled brush just above the crease. A Little Advanced Liquid liner requires a steady hand, so again work from the inside of the eye to the outside. This time however you want to use your lash line as a guide, drawing your eyeliner not on top of it, but beside it. The lighter the touch the thinner the line. Some only line from midway to outside, and some the whole way. Experiment with it to find your spot. Create the flick on the outside corner of the eye just above the crease, allow to dry and if it’s a little messy use a damp cotton bud to tidy it up. A little white illumining eye shadow in to the crease will make the flick even more apparent. 2: Napoleon Perdis Cake Eyeliner $27.00 from Napoleon 3: Cake Eyeliner Sealer $21.00 from Napoleon 4: Chanel Liquid Eyeliner $60.00 from Mantrap 5: Angled Eyeliner Brush $21.00 from Minifies The Bold Forties Brow Inspired by: Dita Von Teese Easy Peasy There are two ways to do this, and both are relatively easy and don’t require plucking or waxing. Instead you create the fullness and shape with a little colour. You can use a product like Modelco’s More Brows, or reach for a brush and some eyebrow powder. You’re basically creating a brow where there is none, so first start by powdering out the brows you have. If you want to make them thicker or the arch more pronounced work on the top line of the brow. A Little Advanced To get a great forties brow means a visit to your local beauty salon to get the shape perfect. Ask for a brow with a thicker weight and a vintage arch and they will sort you out. Afterwards make sure you keep the brow in check with pencil and powder and vigilant plucking. 5: Clarins Retractable Brow Definer $42.00 from Adore Beauty Anya Merryfield
