nzgirl Quickies: Top Five Tips for Scar Removal

Are you unhappy with your scars? Who knew that getting rid of them could be as quick and simple as a massage or a few vitamins!

Anya gives you the lowdown on five super quick and easy ways to help shift those scars. However if you think your scar issue might be a bit more serious make sure to check out this vintage nzgirl article here...

1: Vitamin Va Voom
Good ol’ Vitamin E is pretty powerful stuff. Able to penetrate the upper layers of the skin and fight against scar causing antioxidants from within! Vitamin E can also promote collagen production making it quite common to be recommended to those post surgery for scar care. To get the most out of your Vitamin E apply it liberally to the skin and massage in thoroughly at least once a day. A women’s multi with Evening Primrose Oil can also do wonders to your skin.

2: Scrub and Rub
We exfoliate the skin to smooth and improve skin texture - so it’s quite common to use exfoliation to eliminate a raised scar. Use something like a sugar scrub or exfoliating bar once a week working in circular motions. Make sure that after your rough up you use a lush moisturiser to prevent further skin damage and seal in your skin protectants.

3: Brighten and Whiten
If your skin is darkened by your scar you can brighten and whiten the area to help it blend more into your skin tone. This can be as simple as rubbing half a cut lemon over your scared areas a couple times a week or investing in a brightening cream. I like Comvita's brightening cream that fights dark skin pigmentation and promotes radiance as a whole.

4: The Good Oil
There are lots of scar oil type products on the market, from Palmers Skin Oil to New Zealand made Derma Oil. The active ingredients vary but they usually contain things like Rosemary Oil and Vitamin E that really can help with skin health.

5: More Massages
Its been proven that massages at least once a week for a period of 3 - 6 months can help break down scar tissue leading to scars being less pronounced. I recommend a good massage with whatever skin cream you use daily, before your shower as this can help to not only reduce
scars but also cellulite and improve overall skin condition and
general health!
