You may know Anna from her time in Handsome Geoffery or Duchess or as sidekick for nzgirls Bic Runga and Anika Moa. Well finally, she's struck it out on her own and has released her debut album, The Lake. I was lucky enough to be in the audience when she stunned the crowd at her Auckland launch with her goosebump inducing tunes. She's a stunner, a pocket rocket and she makes some great music that you'll want to hear! Check out her picks from hometown Raglan and the deets about her national tour here! Huntaway Gisborne Reserve Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon
Do you have a giggle at those people who order a "Merlot Cab Sav" as if they weren't quite sure which red they'd like - me too. But now, after my darling friend Liss introduced me to this stunning number, I'm a convert! Huntaway recommend Angus Pure beef as a food match, but you'll be pleased to know that this rich red is perfect for girlie catchups with crackers and cheese, and worked equally well when my man cooked up a lamb rack storm! The tasting notes describe this 'top drop' as being 'a rich and complex bouquet showing lifted berry fruit, cassis, plum and fruit cake aromas" and it shows "hints of vanilla and dark chocolate". This is my wine for the winter!
It's also on special at Foodtown for $18.99 this week! Nice!

Flashing Lights, Shiny Tights
I love trips to Melbourne to see my girlfriend Nicola - she always sends me home a little poorer, but a lot more stylish! I trust her judgement, even if I'm not 100% sold initially. My shiny black tights from spanish label MNG were no exception - but turns out, like it always does, I love them! Being a black addict, the shiny surface looks great contrasted with any number of dresses and skirts, and can dress an outfit up, rather than down as opaque tights can. I'm going to need a new pair soon so I'm eyeing up the Voodoo Wet Look Tights ($44.99) from Farmers or the American Apparel Shiny Tights, pictured. The perfect accessory - you know you want some!

No Man's Woman
It's not often a CD can get all of the nzgirl editorial team smiling - we've got quite diverse taste. But this compilation CD elevates itself by bringing together a bunch of Aussie songmen and delivering an album of their favourite covers of female artists - it's byline is 'a tribute to women in voice'. Powderfinger take on Portishead's 'Glory Box', The Vines have a go at the Veronicas '4Ever' and End of Fashion do a great version of Blondie's 'Hanging on the Telephone'. My current fave is Dan Kelly's take on the ultimate breakup song, Sinead O'Connor's 'Nothing Compares 2 'U - his tropical ukelele adaption sounds a lot like Israel Kamakawiwo Ole's version of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'.

Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
I'm not insinuating anything I promise, I just really liked this book and think you will too. UK  journo Lorna Martin was 35 and about to fall apart. She had a kick ass job that she was close to walking away from, a thing for this great man who happened to be married and starting an affair with someone else, and nothing to show for her last three decades on the planet, not even a cat. Egged on by her mates, she decides to tackle her demons so takes out a $30K loan and enters a year of therapy, writing about the progress of her life as she tangles and detangles it. The weekly columns she published in Grazia magazine formed the basis of Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,
an insightful, honest, intimate and entertaining read!
